Kolkata, Dec 6 (IBNS): Condoling Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa's death, the West Bengal Assembly has been adjourned for the day.

"As a mark of respect to late Jayalalitha Ji, our Assembly has been adjourned for today with a deep sense of grief and sorrow," a tweet from West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee's verified account read.

Jayalalithaa died on Monday night, following a massive cardiac arrest on the day before.

She breathed her last at Chennai's Apollo Hospitals and would be laid to rest by the side of her political mentor M G Ramachandran at Marina Beach.

"State mourning is also being observed. We are all extremely saddened," a second tweet read.

Banerjee, who will miss out on Jayalalithaa's funeral, said she was eager to attend.

"Just got details about funeral timings of dear Amma Jayalalitha. Was very eager to be present but flight availability/timings from Kolkata not making it possible," her tweet read.

TMC MP's Derek O'Brian and Kalyan Banerjee will attend the proceedings in Chennai later in the day.

"Sending our 2 MPs, Derek and Kalyan from Delhi on my behalf. #RIP," a tweet read.
