Jammu/UNI: A pall of gloom gripped Jammu on Thursday afternoon when the news about killing of two school teachers went viral on the social media.

One of the teachers killed by the terrorist was identified as Deepak Chand, a resident of Patoli Morh, Jammu.

According to the family of Deepak Chand, he returned to Kashmir on Sunday to rejoin his duty after performing the rituals of the first death anniversary of his father Lal Chand.

Deepak, his wife and three-year-old girl live in a rented house in Indira Nagar, Patoli Morh but this time he left the family in Jammu to rejoin the duty.
“As soon as the news of Deepak’s death reached us, we were shocked because it was unbelievable,” a family member said.

Deepak’s brother said that his job was started in the year 2019 and since then he was working in Kashmir and he had come home for father's death anniversary.

"On Tuesday, we had a telephonic conversation and he was also upset with the killings of Makhan Lal Bindroo, a civilian and one non-local vendor,” narrated the brother.

Chand’s family couldn’t comprehend the news that their beloved son was shot dead.

“I spoke to him on the phone at 1100 hours and he was in the school. He had harmed no one. Why was he killed,” Chand’s wife lamented.

She said that the family was reluctant to let Chand travel to Srinagar, but he insisted on joining duty at the earliest.

Meanwhile, condolences poured in from all walks of life with the bereaved families.

Bharatiya Janata Party Jammu and Kashmir has condemned the recent spurt in terror attacks in Kashmir to selectively hit the soft targets.

It is an effort to derail the ongoing peace process and developmental activities in Union Territory.

Chief Spokesperson Sunil Sethi noted that such terror attacks are being carried out at a time when peace has finally returned to the Valley and there is high inflow of tourists and also investors particularly in Kashmir region.

These attacks are anti-national, anti-human and anti-Kashmiris. It tends to send signals to people visiting Valley to get dissuaded which inter alia will affect masses in Valley.

He said that targeting people who had remained in Valley despite Terrorism all these years is with intent to cause fear and panic to engineer fresh Exodus of Minorities from Valley which is not tolerable.
