Two militant associates of banned Lashkar-e-Taiba were arrested in Srinagar, police said on Wednesday.

They said the police on Tuesday received information about the movement of suspected terrorists along National Highway (NH) upon which a joint team of Srinagar Police and Quick Reaction Teams of CRPF set up a strong checkpoint along the NH bypass.

“During naka checking, a white-coloured Santro car bearing registration no. JK09 A 2788 coming from Parimpora and headed towards Tengpora tried to flee upon seeing the police party at the checkpoint. However, they were apprehended tactfully by the team of officials present on spot,” a police statement said.

Police said two terrorist associates Mumtaz Ahmad Lone and Jahangir Ahmad Lone, both residents of Trehgam Kupwara were arrested on the spot.

“A huge cache of arms and ammunition was recovered from their possession which included two pistols, four magazines, two filler magazines and eight grenades,” police said.

A case under relevant sections of law of ULAP Act, Explosive Substance Act and Arms Act was registered in Police Station Batmaloo and investigation was initiated.
