Jammu and Kashmir: Two ‘hybrid’ militants arrested

Srinagar: Two “hybrid” militants were arrested in Jammu and Kashmir’s Handwara sub district, police said on Friday.

According to police the ‘hybrid’ militants are “terrorists who disguise as civilians”.

Police identified the two as Aijaz Ahmad Bhat alias Hilal and Naseer Ahmad Mir- both residents of Handwara and the two were allegedly conspiring to carry out attacks.

Giving details, police said on August 4, joint forces arrested three hybrid militants in Handwara and recovered arms and ammunition from them.

“Based on leads developed during investigation, the role of two more individuals emerged in the conspiracy to carry out terrorist acts. The two Bhat and Mir have been arrested and based on their disclosure, a cache of arms and ammunition has been recovered by a joint team of Jammu and Kashmir Police, Army 21RR and 92 Bn CRPF,” a police statement said.

The recovery included two Pistols, four magazines and 58 pistol rounds and sic grenades, it said.

Further investigation in the matter is underway, it added.
