Srinagar/UNI: An unidentified militant has been killed in an ongoing gunfight with security forces in south Kashmir's Pulwama district, officials said here on Wednesday.

The encounter broke out at Usgam Pathri area of Rajpora during a cordon and a search operation by the security forces.

"Around midnight as the joint team of forces cordoned the suspected spot, the hiding militants fired upon the party, which was retaliated, thus triggering an encounter. In the encounter one terrorist has been killed so far," a police officer said.

The operation is still underway.

The identity and the affiliation of slain militant is not yet known.
