Jammu and Kashmir: Gunfight begins between terrorists, security forces in Anantnag and Kulgam

Srinagar: Two anti-militancy operations are underway in south Kashmir's Anantnag and Kulgam districts, officials said.

The first gun battle erupted between militants and forces in Anantnag district, officials said

They said the gun battle erupted at the Sirhama area of Anantnag during a cordon and a search operation in the area following an input about the presence of militants in the area.

“As the joint team of security forces cordoned the suspected spot, the hiding terrorists opened fire triggering a gunfight,” a security official said.

Another gunfight is underway in Kulgam district neighbouring Anatnag.

The encounter erupted at ChakiSamad, Damhal Hanjipora during an anti militancy operation which was launched by the team of joint security forces.

Police said joint forces are on the job.
