Jammu and Kashmir DDC polls: Independents bag seven seats, PAGD, JKAP win three seats each in Srinagar, BJP opens account
Srinagar/UNI/IBNS: Independent candidates have bagged seven District Development Council (DDC) seats while the Peoples Alliance for Gupkar Declaration (PAGD) and the newly created Jammu and Kashmir Apni Party (JKAP) have won three constituencies each in the summer capital, Srinagar on Tuesday.
The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) was also able to open its account in the Kashmir valley by winning a DDC in Srinagar.
Of the seats bagged by PAGD in Srinagar, one each belongs to National Conference, Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and Jammu and Kashmir People’s Movement.
Independent candidate Shaista Aslam has won Harwan I constituency by a margin of 129 votes from her nearest competitor Shaziya Parveen of NC.
Independent candidate Ali Mohammad Rather has bagged Harwan II seat in Srinagar, beating his nearest competitor Zahoor Ahmad Bhat of JKAP by a margin of 96 votes.
The NC candidate Kaisar Ahmad Ganaie secured Harwan III constituency by a margin of 261 seats.
Independent candidate Rizwana Bano defeated her nearest rival Afroza Akhter of NC by a margin of 158 votes to bag Harwan IV seat.
JKAP’s Shabir Ahmad Reshi, Shameema Bano and Malik Aftab bagged Harwan V, Khonmoh I and Srinagar III seats, respectively.
Reshi won by a margin of 167 votes, Bano by 36 votes and Aftab by 174 votes from their nearest rivals.
Independent candidate Mohammad Shaban Chopan secured Harwan VI by a margin of 521 votes.
The seat for the BJP was won by its National Vice-President and in charge West Bengal Youth Wing Er Ajaz Hussain.
Er Hussain secured the seat of Khanmoh II by a margin of 442 votes.
The DDC constituency of Khanmoh III was won by PDP candidate Manzoor Ahmad Bhat by a margin of 340 votes while JKMP’s Afroza Banu bagged Srinagar II by a margin of 170 votes.
Independent candidate Jameela Begum secured Qamarwari I seat by a margin of 401 votes. Another constituency of Qamarwari was also bagged by Independent candidate Mohammad Yaseen Rather by a margin of 21 votes. Independent candidate Bilal Ahmad Bhat has won Srinagar I seat by a margin of 343 votes.

Meanwhile, Jammu and Kashmir Workers Party chief Mir Junaid slammed Pakistan and said each vote counted in the name of democracy is a 'slap' on the face of the neighbouring nation.
