Jammu and Kashmir civil secretariat starts functioning in winter capital Jammu

Jammu, Nov 7 (IBNS): The Jammu and Kashmir civil secretariat on Monday started functioning in the winter capital Jammu after six months in Srinagar, the summer capital of the state.

Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti was accorded traditional ‘Guard of Honour’ upon her arrival at the civil secretariat by a contingent of Jammu and Kashmir Police

A contingent of Jammu and Kashmir Police presented arms to Mehbooba Mufti while Director General of Police (DGP) K. Rajendra Kumar escorted him.

Following more than a century old tradition, the secretariat and all other top offices shuttle on a six-month basis between Jammu and Srinagar


On the occasion, the Chief Minister interacted with the members of print and electronic media, and batted some questions, while replying the question Mehbooa said that  Government is making all out efforts to bring things back to normal in the valley and termed burning of schools in the valley as very most unfortunate.


Expressing confidence that things will improve and peace shall prevail, the Chief Minister said that the authorities have been able to get hold of some miscreants who were involved in burning schools.


The Chief Minister also expressed anguish over the recent escalation of tension along the borders.


Terming the situation as a testing one, she said there has been unrest in the Valley internally on one hand and shelling along the borders externally on the other.


She said it is one of most unfortunate period in the history of the State.
