On a specific information about the presence of militants in the forest area of Nagbaeran Tral, Awantipora in Pulwama, Special Operation Group (SOG) of Jammu and Kashmir police, CRPF and Rashtriya Rifles (RR) launched a joint Cordon and Search Operation (CASO) early Saturday morning.

An encounter ensued after militants attacked security forces while moving into the forest, a police spokesman said.

He said the entire forest area has been cordoned off and operation was going on when the reports last came in.
