Jahangirpuri violence: Delhi Police uses drone cameras for patrolling to maintain law and order

New Delhi: The Delhi Police have deployed drone cameras for patrolling to ensure law and order in the sensitive areas after violence hit northwest Delhi's Jahangirpuri area during a Hanuman Jayanti procession on Saturday, media reports said.

News agency ANI reported that Delhi Police is using drone cameras for patrolling Jamia Nagar and Jasola to ensure law and order in the areas.

Meanwhile, female paramilitary forces along with the Delhi Police are patrolling in G block at Kaushal chowk where groups of two communities had clashed Saturday evening.

So far police have arrested 14 individuals in connection with the incident which left nine people injured, including eight policemen and one civilian.

According to reports, more suspects have been identified using CCTV footage and videos on social media and efforts are underway to arrest them.

Police have registered a case under sections relating to rioting, attempt to murder and Arms Act.

Ten teams of officers from the Crime Branch and Special Cell have been formed to investigate the matter.

According to the FIR, the rally was passing by a mosque when Ansar, one of the arrested accused, allegedly started arguing with those participating in the rally.

The altercation soon turned into a clash with both sides starting to throw stones at each other, the FIR says.

ASI Arun Kumar, who was hit by a stone during the clashes and sustained injuries to his leg and shoulders, told India Today that when the procession reached Kushal Chowk a mob suddenly rushed towards the procession. The mob included women, children and the elderly, he recounted.

ASI Arun Kumar recalled that everyone had swords and knives in their hands. He could see stones and bottles all around, the India Today report stated.

The National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR) has taken suo moto cognizance of children used in the Jahangirpuri incident and has sought a report from Delhi Police on action taken in this regard.

India Today reported that a bullet shell was found from the place where a man, in a blue kurta, was seen firing in a video from yesterday's violent incident.

District Police and Crime Branch are jointly investigating the Jahangirpura violence, said Ravindra Yadav, Special CP, Crime Branch, reported ANI.

Meanwhile, the accused in the Jahangirpuri violence case have been taken to Delhi's Rohini court.
