India's longest bridge to boost regional development
Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday inaugurated India's longest river bridge, the Dhola-Sadiya bridge, over River Brahmaputra in Assam.
The bridge is situated around 100 km from the McMahon line separating India and China.
The bridge reduced distance from Rupai in Assam to Roing in Arunachal Pradesh by 165 km.
According to reports, the 9.15 km long bridge has the capacity to carry the weight of a 60 tonne battle tank, which indicates the bridge can help in Indian Army operations too should there be an emergency.
The bridge, built by Navayuga Engineering Co Ltd, is 3.55 km longer than the sea link over the Mahim Bay in Mumbai.
According to reports, the bridge will save transport fuel worth Rs 10 lakh per day in the region.
