New Delhi/IBNS: India has crossed the 'milestone landmark' of 60 lakh recoveries from the novel coronavirus even as the country's total tally surpassed 70 lakh cases of the contagion.

With 74,383 fresh cases in the last 24 hours, the country's total number of cases stands at  70,53,806, the Union Health Ministry revealed in its daily bulletin on Sunday.

India recorded a whopping 1,08,334 deaths so far with 918 fresh fatalities in the last 24 hours.

Maharashtra and four southern states - Kerala, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu -- reported the maximum number of cases, as per the data.

"The five top states with maximum caseload (61% active cases) are also contributing more than half (54.3%) of the total recoveries," the Health Ministry said in a tweet this morning.
