Indian Navy's eastern fleet ships arrive in Singapore as part of the deployment to South East Asia

Indian Naval Ships Delhi, Satpura, Shakti and Kiltan, under the Command of RAdm Susheel Menon, Flag Officer Commanding Eastern Fleet, arrived in Singapore, on July 16, to a warm welcome from personnel of Republic of Singapore Navy and the High Commission of India in the country.

The visit is part of the Operational Deployment of the Indian Navy to South East Asia.

"This visit is poised to further strengthen the longstanding friendship and cooperation between the two maritime nations through a series of engagements and activities," read the statement issued by the Indian government.

Professional interactions with the Republic of Singapore Navy, discussions with academia and engagements with the community, that reflect the shared values of both nations are planned during the visit.

Indian Navy and Republic of Singapore Navy share robust operational relations spanning over three decades of cooperation, coordination and collaboration with regular visits, exchange of Best Practices and reciprocal training arrangements.

The current deployment underscores the strong linkages between both the navies.

India Singapore Defence Cooperation

India and Singapore have several structured defence interactions, spanning from political leadership down to staff levels of all three-armed forces, D/o Defence Production and DRDO. 

Defence Minister of Singapore Dr Ng Eng Hen visited India on 21-23 October 2024 for the 6th round of Defence Ministers’ Dialogue.

5th round of Defence Policy Dialogue (Secretary level) was held in November 2023 in New Delhi. Chief of Naval Staff Admiral R Hari Kumar visited Singapore in May 2023.

"There are bilateral exercises for all three services (Army – Exercise Agni Warrior, Navy – Exercise SIMBEX and Air Force – Joint Military Training). 31st edition of SIMBEX was held in India from 23-29 October 2024," read the Indian Embassy in Singapore's website.

The 13th edition of Ex Agni Warrior was held in India from 05 October to 11 December 2024. 

The 12th edition of  Joint Military Training was held in India on October 4 to December 16, 2024. 

The 4th edition of Singapore-India-Thailand Maritime Exercise (SITMEX) was hosted by India in November 2024. Singapore co-hosted the inaugural ASEAN – India Maritime Exercise in Singapore in 2023. 

Singapore participated in all editions of biennial Exercise Milan since its inception in 1995. In 2024, a total of four Indian Navy ships and one Indian Coast Guard ship visited Singapore for operational turn around/ goodwill visits. Indian Air Force Sarang Helicopter 
Display team participated in Singapore Air Show 2024 (held in February 2024). 

Military professionals from both countries undergo short and long term courses under several exchange programs.
