A 33-year-old Indian IT professional and student from Andhra Pradesh, Venkatesh Doppalapudi, died after his vehicle was swept away by flash flood waters in Kansas, United States.

He was residing in Omaha, Nebraska, and was travelling towards Houston when he encountered severe weather conditions.

Authorities said heavy rainfall had already caused widespread flooding in parts of Kansas, with more than six inches of rain reported in several areas.

Car submerged near bridge amid extreme currents

According to eyewitness accounts and emergency responders from Sumner County, a vehicle was seen submerged near a bridge with Doppalapudi still inside.

Rescue teams rushed to the spot, but strong water currents made it impossible to reach the vehicle in time.

A coordinated multi-agency search operation was launched, involving police drones and the Kansas Highway Patrol Air Unit. His body was recovered the following day.

Indian Consulate expresses condolences

The Consulate General of India, Houston, confirmed the incident and expressed deep sorrow over the tragedy.

In its statement, the mission said it was in close contact with local authorities and the family of the deceased.

The consulate added that it is working to provide all possible assistance, including coordination with law enforcement agencies in Kansas and supporting the required legal formalities.

Repatriation process and support efforts underway

Officials are currently assisting the family in arranging the repatriation of the mortal remains to India for final rites.

Local authorities and the Indian consulate are jointly handling documentation and procedural requirements.

Crowdfunding launched for final rites

A GoFundMe campaign has also been initiated to help the family cover the costs of transporting the body to India, funeral arrangements, and other related expenses.

The fundraiser aims to ease the financial burden on the grieving family as they prepare for the final rites in India.
