Indian diplomat to UN falls victim to Delhi snatchers

New Delhi, Dec 25 (IBNS) :  In an incident that could leave the administration stunned and ashamed, the  first secretary of India’s Permanent Mission to  the United Nations, Eenam Gambhir, has fallen victim to  Delhi’s snatchers, media reports said.

According to reports, the diplomat, who is posted in New York, lost her mobile phone as two men on  a motorbike snatched it when she was out for a walk with her mother on Saturday night.

Gambhir is home on a vacation.

The 34-year-old Indian Foreign Service officer was in news earlier this year  for her stinging speech at the UN General Assembly in September, where she described Pakistan as “Terroristan”.

The Hindustan Times quoted her father, Jagdish Kumar Gambhir, as saying that the iphone had a US-registered SIM card and contained crucial work-related documents.

In her statement, the diplomat told the police that she could not note down the registration number of the motorcycle because it was dark.

Based on her statement, a case under Sections 356 (Assault or criminal force in attempt to commit theft of property carried by a person) , 379 (Punishment for theft) and 34 (Acts done by several persons in furtherance of common intention) was registered at the Rohini North police station against two unidentified men.

Till Sunday evening, the police had not identified the snatchers.
