Indian civil aviation space 'absolutely safe', says DGCA chief
New Delhi: Aviation regulator DGCA's chief Arun Kumar Sunday said that the Indian civil aviation space is absolutely safe and all the rules laid by the International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO) are being followed, media reports said.
On technical snags reported by domestic carriers, he said they did not have the potential to create havoc, adding that even the foreign airlines coming to India had faced 15 technical malfunctions in 16 days.
His comments come close on the heels of Indian airlines reporting technical issues leading to emergency landings in several cases and the aviation regulator ordering SpiceJet to curtail flights.
Kumar stressed that these incidents did not have the potential to cause havoc in the Indian aviation space.
While he did not share the details of the snags faced by foreign operators, he said they were similar to those reported by Indian carriers.
The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) is keeping a close watch on the developments, he assured.
On the issues reported by domestic operators, he said they required troubleshooting, replacement of some component say windshield due to outer layer crack, defective valve, high-pressure switch, landing gear uplock, hydraulic accumulator or an engine.
The regulator has started a two-month-long special audit of airlines to address possible issues.
