Indian Christian leader writes to Amit Shah demanding law to curb love jihad

New Delhi: Considering "love jihad" as a threat to the Christian community, National Commission for Minorities Vice-Chairman George Kurian wrote a letter to Union Home Minister Amit Shah demanding a probe by National Investigation Agency (NIA) and strict law to curb these "fraudulent activities of radicalised elements", The Hindu reported.

Kurian's letter has been quoted by The Hindu as, "The spate of organised religious conversions and using the victims for terror activities by trapping them through ‘love jihad’ has shown the Christian community is a soft target for Islamic radicals.”

In the letter, he also mentioned a particular case of an alleged rape, blackmail and coercive conversion attempts in Kozhikode, Kerala.

The complaint, as the letter reads, was filed by a couple in Delhi. The complaint said the couple's daughter was allegedly abducted and taken to a West Asian country.

Kurian said the conversation is not from one religion to the other but to terrorism.

"It’s been a continuous process. The conversion is not happening into Islam, but to terrorism. Even the Muslim community in the State is opposed to it. It needs to be taken seriously. Hence my letter to the Home MInister,” he said in the letter.
