Indian Army's Trishakti Corps restores lifeline connectivity in North Bengal between Siliguri and Mirik

| @indiablooms | Jun 24, 2026, at 02:10 pm

Responding to a requisition from the District Administration, the Indian Army established a 34-metre foot bridge across the Balason River at Dudhia, restoring vital connectivity between Siliguri and Mirik and facilitating access to border crossing points such as Pashupati Phatak.

The intervention became necessary after the existing bridge was washed away due to incessant rains, disrupting movement across the river and causing inconvenience to local residents, commuters and travellers.

The newly established foot bridge will enable safe pedestrian movement.

Based on the same requisition, the Army is also working towards launching a wider Bailey Bridge in the near future, which will allow vehicular traffic to pass through. This will help restore tourist movement in the region, which is vital for local livelihoods.

Special care has been taken to secure the structure and implement all necessary safety measures to ensure its stability and safe usage.

An Army official stated, "The Indian Army remains committed to supporting civil administration and local communities whenever required.

"Restoration of this vital link will ease daily movement, support tourism and provide relief to the people of the region until a permanent solution is established."

The initiative reflects the strong partnership between the Indian Army, civil administration and local communities.
