Indian Army Chief visits Maldives

New Delhi, May 8 (IBNS): Chief of the Indian Army Staff, General Bikram Singh on Thursday went on an official visit to Maldives till May 10.

The visit assumes special significance in the light of improving military cooperation between the two countries in consonance with India's growing relationship with the Maldives.

According to the Indian Defence Ministry, the Indian-Maldives relations have always been close and cordial. 

The successful visits of the Maldives Minister of Defence and National Security in Dec 2013; the President in Jan 2014 and the Chief of Defence Force in Feb & Mar 2014 and India’s Defence Minister in Sep 2013 and External Affairs Minister in Feb 2014; have also contributed significantly to the consolidation of the existing ties giving a further impetus to the cordial relations between both the nations. 

During the visit, the Army Chief is scheduled to interact with various high level political and military dignitaries of Maldives to include the President, Minister for Defence and National Security, Chief of Defence Force and other dignitaries.

Issues of mutual interest and cooperation will be discussed during the visit.
