India will stand steadfastly with new Govt of Afghanistan: Modi
Modi tweeted: "We wholeheartedly welcome the agreement between the 2 Afghan leaders - Ashraf Ghani & Abdullah Abdullah."
"Wisdom they have shown respects the strong democratic aspirations of people of Afghanistan, which was also manifested by the poll turnout," he said.
"India will stand steadfastly with new Govt of Afghanistan as it continues the task of building a strong, developed & peaceful nation," Modi said.
Ending weeks of uncertainty about the future administration of the war-ravaged country, Afghanistan's election commission on Sunday declared nations ex-finance minister Ashraf Ghani Ahmadzai as the president-elect, media reports said on Sunday.
Earlier, in the day, Ahmadzai and rival Abdullah Abdullah had signed a power-sharing agreement.
The Independent Election Commission (IEC) Chairman Ahmad Yousaf Nuristani declared Ahmadzai as the winner.
"Surprisingly, Nuristani gave no vote figures, saying the results had been shared with the presidential hopefuls, who signed the agreement on power-sharing earlier in the day at the Presidential Palace," Pajhwok Afghan News reported.
