New Delhi, Sept 19 (IBNS) : India will give a "befitting, cold and calculated" reply to the deadly terror attack on the Uri army camp that left 17 soldiers dead and 19 injured, Minister of state for External Affairs Minister VK Singh said on Monday.

"India will give a befitting reply," he told a television channel.

"A cold and calculated response is the need of the hour," he said while calling upon the  armed forces to "scale up their security."

Earlier, Prime Minister Narendra Modi chaired a high level meeting, convened to review the situation in Kashmir and chalk out India's strategy against terror attacks.

The meeting was attended, among others, by Home Minister Rajnath Singh, Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar, Finance Minister Arun Jaitley, National Security Adviser Ajit Doval, Intelligence agency chiefs and Home and defence Secretaries.

Rajnath Singh held a separate meeting with Parrikar and Army Chief Dalbir Singh.

On Sunday morning, four terrorists sneaked into the army base and went on making brush firing after throwing grenades that killed soldiers sleeping in tents that caught fire.

Twenty soldiers were injured, seven of them critically.

All the four attackers were also killed in gun battle.

The Government has  said the attack is the handiwork of Jaish-e-Mohammad, a Pakistan-based terror outfit and the arms seized from the possession of the slain terrorists bore the stamps of Pakistan.

Blaming Pakistan for the incident, Home Minister Rajnath Singh has called it a  terrorist state and said  it should be isolated.

Pakistan has, however, denied the allegation, describing it as "baseless and irresponsible."

The Army chief  and the Defence Minister r had immediately flown to Srinagar following the Uri attack  to take stock of the situation.

On Monday morning, Parrikar met Modi and briefed him on the situation after the Uri attack.
