India slams China over Arunachal Pradesh
MEA spokesperson Syed Akbaruddin said that the fact that "Arunachal Pradesh is an integral and inalienable part of India" has been conveyed to China on various levels, including at the highest level.
While India's vice-president Hamid Ansari is visiting China to promote brotherhood and honour the spirit of Panchasheel (five principles of peaceful co-existence), the Asian neighbour of India on Saturday released a new map showing Arunachal Pradesh as a part of it.
India and China have a long running dispute over territorial boundaries, especially over Arunachal Pradesh and parts of Ladakh under Jammu and Kashmir.
In 1962 China and India fought a brief war over Aksai Chin (Ladakh region) and Arunachal Pradesh, but in 1993 and 1996 the two countries signed agreements to respect the Line of Actual Control.
The 4057 km-long Line of Actual Control (LAC) is the effective border between India and People's Republic of China (PRC).
The two countries often had been embroiled in standoffs over Chinese troops intrusions in India.
