Indian-origin politician Ritesh Tandon on Sunday claimed six Hindu temples were vandalised in the US state of California in the past two weeks.

Tandon is also a Democratic candidate who is running for election to the US House to represent California's 17th Congressional District.

" In the last two weeks, six Indian temples have been vandalized, five of which are in Wahab District. There has been no response from Senator Aisha Wahab @SenAishaWahab, @aishabbwahab ," he posted on X.

He said Senator Aisha Wahab, a member of the California State Senate,  did not respond to the attacks.

Tandon said: "Today, we held a protest rally in front of Senator Wahab's office, seeking a meeting with her or her staff. Unfortunately, despite it being within office hours on a working day, the office was closed. This situation highlights the use of your tax dollars and suggests it might be time to consider a recall."

On January 19, Wahab, however, reacted to the vandalisation of temple and posted on X: "The ongoing vandalism of Hindu temples across Bay Area must stop."

"There is no room for such hatred in our communities," she said.

American politician Aisha Wahab has been a member of the California State Senate from the 10th district since 2022.

A member of the Democratic Party, she is the first Muslim elected to the California State Senate.

She is one of the first Afghan-Americans elected to public office, alongside New Hampshire state representative Safiya Wazir.
