Independence Day: Nitish Kumar promises 20 lakhs jobs and employment in Bihar

Patna/UNI: In less than a week after the formation of a new government with the Grand Alliance, Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar Monday announced that his government would provide 20 lakhs jobs and employment in the state while hoisting the tricolour to mark 76th Independence Day.

Kumar while addressing a function organised at historic Gandhi Maidan in Patna after hoisting the tricolour to mark 76th Independence Day, said that his government was committed to provide maximum possible jobs and employment to youths of Bihar. Youth employment was the top priority for his government, he added.

"We are now together and have the same vision and concept on providing jobs to youths", the Chief Minister said while making reference to his joining hands with RJD to form the Grand Alliance government recently.

In an oblique reference to the promise made for 10 lakhs government jobs, by the then leader of the opposition Tejaswi Prasad Yadav, who is now Deputy Chief Minister in his government, said it was certain that 10 lakh jobs would be given.

He said that in fact, he was in favour of providing more and more jobs and employment to youths.

"We will provide 20 lakhs jobs and employment to youths in Bihar", Kumar said, adding that all required steps were being taken in this connection.

It is pertinent to point out here that BJP has been repeatedly asking Tejaswi about his promise to provide 10 lakhs government jobs since he became Deputy Chief Minister in the Grand Alliance Government as he had promised it during the 2020 Bihar Assembly elections.

The announcement made by the Chief Minister to provide 20 lakhs jobs and employment assumes significance as NDA during the 2020 Bihar Assembly elections had promised 19 lakhs employment to youths in Bihar.

Chief Minister Kumar's party JD(U) was then part of NDA with BJP as its major coalition partner and he was heading the NDA government.
