Immediately withdraw land ordinance: Mamata

| | Feb 25, 2015, at 04:48 am
New Delhi, Feb 24 (IBNS) West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Tuesday called the Land Acquisition Ordinance as 'draconian' and demanded for an immediate withdrawal of it.

"Immediately withdraw land ordinance. It is draconian. It will affect the farmers. We have always opposed this," Banerjee tweeted.

"We do not support forceful land acquisition. I have gone on 26-day hunger strike in the past for this cause," he said.

The Centre  on Tuesday introduced the Land Acquisition Amendment Bill 2015 for proposed changes in rules for land acquisition in the Lower House of the Parliament.

Soon after the Bill was introduced, the Congress raised strong opposition and staged a walkout protesting against the move.

According to majority of Oppositions, the Bill was against the farmers' prospects.
