IIT Madras student found dead in hostel room, police suspect suicide

| @indiablooms | Apr 22, 2023, at 01:45 am

Chennai/IBNS: A student was found dead in a hostel room at the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Madras on Friday, reports said.

The police are suspecting it to be a case of suicide.

The student, who was in the second year of his Chemical Engineering course, hailed from Maharashtra.

If suicide is confirmed after the investigation, it would be the fourth such case in IIT-Madras this year.

Earlier this month, a 32-year-old Ph.D. student of IIT-Madras died by suicide in his room. He was from West Bengal.

In March, a third-year student died by suicide at the same campus. He was 20 years old and a resident of Andhra Pradesh.

Before that, in February, a research scholar from Maharashtra died by suicide at IIT-Madras.
