Ignoring problem is not solution: Rahul Gandhi targets Modi govt over Coronavirus again

New Delhi/IBNS: Relaunching an attack on the Narendra Modi government over the outbreak of the deadly Novel Coronavirus, Congress MP Rahul Gandhi on Friday said ignoring a problem, which he accused the Centre of doing, can never be the solution.

He also coupled his Coronavirus attack with the present economic situation in India.

Gandhi tweeted, "I will keep repeating this. The #coronavirus is a huge problem. Ignoring the problem is a non solution. The Indian economy will be destroyed if strong action is not taken. The government is in a stupor."

The Congress leader on Thursday blamed Prime Minister Modi for not taking adequate preparations to control the situation created by Coronavirus which has infected 74 people (as per last update) and claimed a life.

Addressing media, Gandhi had said, "There is no preparation of Coronavirus. They (the government) didn't realise that it was spreading in the country. The Prime Minister is sleeping at his will. He does not understand these things.

We are heading on a highway for an accident as a nation."

Though Gandhi is regularly targeting Modi over Coronavirus, the Prime Minister on Thursday said his government was vigilant about the present situation urging people not to panic.

In a tweet, Modi, who had earlier skipped the Holi celebrations over Coronavirus outbreak, had tweeted, "The Government is fully vigilant about the situation due to COVID-19 Novel Coronavirus. Across ministries & states, multiple steps have been proactively taken to ensure safety of all. These steps are wide-ranging, from suspension of Visas to augmenting healthcare capacities."

The Prime Minister said none of his ministers will travel abroad in upcoming days.

He had tweeted, "Say No to Panic, Say Yes to Precautions. No Minister of the Central Government will travel abroad in the upcoming days. I urge our countrymen to also avoid non-essential travel. We can break the chain of spread and ensure safety of all by avoiding large gatherings."

Amid the Coronavirus scare, the stock market took a plunge in the first hour on Friday by recording a fall of over 3,000 points.

After a 45-minute trade halt, the Sensex and NIFTY have recovered.
