If needed, govt would make law against love jihad: Devendra Fadnavis

Nagpur/UNI: Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Tuesday said if needed, his government is prepared to make a law against love jihad.

Speaking in the Assembly during a discussion on the Shraddha Walkar case, Fadnavis said his government is not against interfaith marriages but it cannot deny that love jihad is a reality in society.

"Our government is studying various laws made by different states and if needed, our government is ready to make law for this," said the state Home Minister.

The DyCM further said that no political or outside pressure is there on the local police in the Shraddha Walkar case.

"However, Walkar withdrew her complaint after one month. We are probing what happened during that one month," Fadnavis added.

Notably, the issue of love jihad has once again emerged following the murder of Shraddha Walkar, who was allegedly killed by her live-in partner Aaftab Poonawala and chopped into 35 pieces in their Delhi residence.
