New Delhi, May 11 (IBNS): At a time when the BSP and the Samajwadi Party are contesting the Lok Sabha polls in Uttar Pradesh together, Congress president Rahul Gandhi has said he respects BSP chief Mayawati.

"Mayawati is a national icon. She is with the BSP, but she has sent a message to the country. I respect her, I love her," Gandhi told NDTV.

The Congress president said if his party comes to power after the Lok Sabha polls then 22 lakh jobs will be given in the first year.

"We will give 22 lakh jobs in the first year, once we come to power. We will try our best that we make these recruitments without any scam," he said.

He said PM Narendra Modi's time is 'over'.

"Narendra Modi's time is over.. he can no longer make personal attacks," Gandhi told the news channel.

India is currently voting in the Lok Sabha polls.

The last two phases of the seven-phase polls are left.

Counting of votes will take place on May 23.
