Honeypreet Insan taken into police custody, claims to be innocent

| @indiablooms | Oct 04, 2017, at 04:53 am
New Delhi, Oct 3 (IBNS): After being on run for over a month, Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh's close aide and self-proclaimed “adopted daughter” Honeypreet Insan is finally in custody of Haryana police, media reports said.

She reportedly walked into the Mohali police station and surrendered.

Honeypreet will be produced in court on Wednesday.

She was brought to Panchkula for questioning.

Honeypreet, in her mid-30s, was on the run since August 25, the day Dera Sacha Sauda sect chief  Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh was convicted in two rape cases.

There had been reports that Honeypreet had fled to Nepal following Ram Rahim's sentencing.

Earlier in the day, in an interview to India Today,  Honeypreet (real name Priyanka Taneja), claimed that she was innocent.

Dismissing reports questioning her relationship with Ram Rahim Singh, Honeypreet claimed it was "pure."

"I do not understand how can someone question the holy relationship of a father and daughter. My main concern was the way the media projected me. How can they malign a father and daughter's relationship. Can a father not keep his hands on his daughter? Can a daughter not love her father?" she said.

Honeypreet, who is accused of stirring riots in Panchkula and Sirsa, Haryana, after Ram Rahim's conviction in a rape case that dates back to 2002, dismissed all the allegations and said: "I want to ask, how can a girl go alone without appropriate permission in the middle of the force? Later they all said that I was wrong. I just need to say that all evidence is there for the world to see. They accuse me of being involved in riots, but do they have any evidence against me."

Despite court conviction of Ram Rahim for raping two of his Sadhvis (female followers), Honeypreet, attempted to defend the Dera chief.

She said in the interview: "One basis of one letter, how can anyone be held guilty? My father is innocent and his innocence will be proved. They have not considered the opinion of other women from dera."

Honeypreet said she will appeal to the higher courts to prove Ram Rahim innocent and also take legal actions after consulting the lawyers. She divulged that will go to Haryana and Chandigarh High Court, which was directed by the Delhi High Court, days ago.

On September 26, the Delhi High Court turned down the anticipatory bail plea of a suspected accomplice of arrested Dera Sacha Sauda chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh, Honeypreet Insan.
