Lucknow, Mar 19 (UNI) High alert has been issued in Uttar Pradesh amid apprehension of violence during the festival of colours in view of the Lok Sabha elections.

State Director General of Police (DGP) O P Singh has issued strict directives to all the 75 districts of the state to maintain vigil during the festival.

The state government has rushed over 140 companies of central forces to different sensitive districts along with additional companies to PAC during the festival.
The DGP also held a video conferencing with senior official of the district and instructed them to step up patrolling and keeping a watch on the anti-social elements.

"There should be strict monitoring during the Holika dahan programme as petty clashes tend to take a bigger form. As Lok Sabha polls are nearing, rivalry between politicians could be another issue during this festival," he told the district officials.

Already every district has set up control rooms in view of the elections and security forces have been dispatched to every district for controlling law and order. The DGP has also instructed all the districts to set up peace committees and hold meeting before the Holi festival.
