Himachal Pradesh: Case registered for curtailing last rites of Dalit woman

Shimla, Apr 15 (UNI) Himachal Police has registered a case against unknowns for not allowing a Dalit family to cremate their elderly woman in the village crematorium in Kullu. 

Ravidas Dharma Sabha, led by its president Karam Chand Bhatia told UNI that FIR was lodged at Patlikuhal police station in Kullu district.


Earlier, Mr Bhatia has met Himachal Pradesh Governor Acharya Dev Vrat on Sunday and brought this matter to his attention.


According to reports, on April 12 people belonging to upper caste under the duress and showing wrath of local deity, did not permit to perform the last rite of a Dalit women at Dhara village forcing the family to shift the funeral site to nearby nalah.


The incident came to notice, when a video was making the rounds on social media in which Tape Ram, grandson of deceased, was seen recording his statement while his grandmother is being cremated in the backdrop.
