Hijab row is moral policing, says Congress

| @indiablooms | Feb 12, 2022, at 10:34 pm

Shimla/UNI: Congress MLA Asha Kumari on Saturday slammed the Karnataka government for the hijab controversy, calling it an instance of moral policing of Muslim woman.

In a statement here, Asha Kumari, a Congress Working Committee (CWC) member, said efforts were being made to impose a moral stand on the minority woman and to polarize people on religious lines.

Hijab is like a 'dupatta' and can be worn outside the school, she said.

"The freedom of the students to wear hijab cannot be curbed by countering it with saffron scarf."

Another MLA, Vikramaditya Singh, said: "A daughter is a daughter whether a Hindu, Muslim or Dalit . One cannot discriminate between girls on religious and caste lines."
