Guwahati, Sept 20 (IBNS) : The High Powered Committee (HPC) of Assam government has cleared few mega projects proposal worth Rs 463 crore.

A meeting of the HPC for mega projects was held under the Chairmanship of Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi at his official residence.

In a statement, the state government said that the HPC cleared the proposal of 'M/s Ajanta Pharma Ltd. for setting up a pharmaceuticals (allopathic medicine) manufacturing unit at village Kokjhar, Chaygaon, Palasbari in Kamrup district with an investment of Rs.177.67 crore'.

The firm is expected to generate 800 numbers of job opportunities.

The committee also cleared the proposal of 'M/s Ecotech Papers' for a kraft paper manufacturing unit at Kamalpur in Kamrup district with an investment of Rs.140.19 crore and a direct employment generation of 147 persons.

It also gave the go-ahead to a proposal of 'M/s North East Nutrients Pvt. Limited' for setting up a unit for manufacturing of biscuits at Ramhari village in Darrang district with an investment of Rs.146 crore with direct employment of about 700 persons.

The HPC constituted under the Industrial & Investment Policy of Assam, 2014 discussed the status of the projects that were already granted Mega Status and also the status of applications in the pipeline.

The HPC felt that suspension of registration under the NEIIPP Policy has affected the investment scenario in the State very adversely. The Committee expressed its concern on the setback to the investment in the State due to the decision of the NDA Government at the Centre.

During discussion, it was also felt that most of the industrial units are coming up in both Kamrup (Metro) and Kamrup (Rural) districts.

The committee felt that the industrial units should spread over to other parts of the State. Chief Minister Gogoi suggested that the units set up away from Guwahati would be considered for more benefits/incentives as compared to the units coming up in Kamrup districts.

The meeting was attended by Minister for Industries & Commerce, Basanta Das, Additional Chief Secretaries, R.T.Jindal, Subhash Das, K.V. Eapen, Davinder Kumar and other senior officials.
