Kolkata, Jul 20 (IBNS): The Kolkata Police have beefed up security in city's downtown Esplanade area for the ruling Trinamool Congress (TMC)'s martyr day rally, which will be observed on Thursday, officials said.

"As  large number of VVIPs and VIPs will be present on the stage tomorrow, we have taken special arrangements for the massive rally. All nearby roads, crossings and strategic points have been put under continuous CCTV surveillance. Our bomb disposal squad personnel along with sniffer dogs are searching the area and stage in a regular interval," one senior official of Kolkata Police told IBNS.

"As many as 2800 policemen, including 20 Deputy Commissioners, 8 Joint Commissioners, 3 Additional Commissioners, 1 Special Commissioner, 400 Sub Inspectors and 200 women cops, will provide security there tomorrow. Our Quick Response Teams (QRT), Radio Flying Squad and Heavy Radio Flying Squad teams will be there for immediate intervention," he further added.

Several massive marches will enter Kolkata on Thursday to join the rally here. At least seven giant screens will be arranged in the area to show the event live. Thirteen ambulances will be ready there at Esplanade.

Following the party marked a massive victory in recently concluded West Bengal assembly polls, a huge gathering is expected in TMC's martyr day observation on Thursday.
