Hathras gangrape incident: Yogi Adityanath constitutes SIT, orders trial in fast-track court

Lucknow/IBNS: Amid the widespread outrage over the fatal rape of a 19-year old girl in Uttar Pradesh's Hathras, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Wednesday constituted a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to probe into the heinous crime and also ordered a trial against the accused in a fast-track court.

The victim died at Delhi's Safdarjung Hospital two weeks after she was gangraped by four men in her village.

The girl was left paralysed with a spinal cord injury by the accused while her tongue was found cut.

The incident has sparked outrage with people demanding justice for the girl while politicians have targeted Adityanath for the alleged deteriorating law and order situation in his state.

Congress general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra tweeted, "The Dalit rape victim from Hathras has died in the hospital. She was fighting for her life in hospital for two weeks. A number of rape incidents in Uttar Pradesh has shaken the state."

"The law and order situation in Uttar Pradesh has deteriorated beyond limits. There is no safety for women. Crime is taking place openly in the state. The murderers of this girl need to be punished strictly. Yogi Adityanath should answer for the safety issues of women."

Former Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mayawati tweeted, "The death of the Hathras gangrape survivor is saddening. BSP demands support for the deceased's family from the state government and the guilty must be punished by running the case in fast track court."

".... there is no hope from today's insensitive government," tweeted other former Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav.
