Gurugram: The police have arrested a woman named Baljit Kaur in Haryana for allegedly providing refuge to the absconding Khalistani leader Amritpal Singh and his associate Papalpreet Singh.

The Waris Punjab De leader and his accomplices were given a place to stay at Kaur's residence in the Kurukshetra district of Haryana.

The arrest has led to speculations that Amritpal Singh might have fled Punjab. The authorities confirmed that the woman was arrested in the Shahabad region.

According to media reports, the arrested woman has been handed over to the Punjab Police.

Tejinder Singh Gill, one of Amritpal Singh’s guards, was also arrested on Thursday.

Gill hails from Mangewal village in the Khanna area of Ludhiana district, said Khanna Deputy Superintendent of Police (Payal) Harsimrat Singh.

The top cop said Tejinder Singh Gill displayed weapons on social media while not holding an arms licence.

He was also involved in the Ajnala incident in which Waris Punjab De’s armed supporters stormed the police station, using a copy of the Sikh holy book Guru Granth Sahib as a shield, and extracted the release of Amritpal Singh’s close aid Lovepreet Singh accused in criminal cases. Media reports said citing officials that the Ajnala Police will separately take action against Gill.
