New Delhi, May 22 (IBNS) : Anita Kundu, a Sub-Inspector of the Haryana Police has scaled the Mount Everest from the China side to put on the laurel of becoming the first Indian woman to reach the summit from both Nepal and China sides.

A Hindustan Times report said that 29-year-old Kundu, a Hisar resident, began her expedition from China side on April 11, but soon lost contact while climbing. On April 20, it was communicated that she was some 1,100 metres away from the peak.

She hoisted the Indian flag on Sunday.

This was her second attempt to climb from China as bad weather had earlier prevented her from reaching the top.

Kundu had earlier  scaled the highest peak from the Nepal side on May 18, 2013.

Congratulating her, Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar tweeted : "Congratulations to Haryana's Anita Kundu for becoming the first Indian woman to climb Mt. Everest from the China side. More power to you!"

Congress national spokesperson Randeep Singh Surjewala tweeted : "Haryana's girls make India proud again. Anita Kundu becomes first Indian to climb Mt. Everest, both from Nepal(2013) & China(2017) sides."
