Happy that you stand vindicated in 2G scam case: Manhohan to Raja

New Delhi, Jan 4 (IBNS): After getting acquittal from the 2G scam case, ex-telecom minister A Raja on Dec 26 wrote an emotional letter to Manmohan Singh seeking his support to which the former Prime Minister responded on Thursday, media reports said.

Manmohan Singh wrote back expressing his happiness that the DMK leader has been acquitted by the court of all charges.

"You will recall that I assured you several times that I had done nothing wrong but rather acted in national interest and that I would prove this," Raja had written in a letter to Manmohan Singh, which has been assessed by media.

Raja also said that he understood why Singh couldn't openly defend him during the case.

To this, Manmohan Singh reportedly replied: "I'm very happy that you stand vindicated in 2G spectrum allocation scam cases. Special CBI judge O P Saini said in his judgment that the prosecution had "miserably failed to prove any of its charge" against the accused."

Giving a relief to the Congress and its ally DMK, a special CBI court last month acquitted former Telecom Minister A Raja and DMK leader M Karunanidhi's daughter M Kanimozhi and other accused in the 2G scam case of the previous UPA regime, media reports said.

The accused have been acquitted as the prosecution failed to provide sufficient proofs.

Raja was accused of allocating airwaves and licenses for cellphone networks in exchange of kickbacks leading to an alleged loss of  Rs. 1.76 lakh crore. He was also accused to have been the mastermind in the scam.

The trial had started in 2011. All licenses of Raja were cancelled earlier by the Supreme Court.

The 2G scam was one of the biggest allegations of corruption against the UPA government which then opposition BJP used as political weapon.
