Hamid Ansari rejects Vijay Mallya's resignation from Rajya Sabha

New Delhi, May 3 (IBNS): Rajya Sabha Chairman Hamid Ansari on Tuesday rejected liquor baron Vijay Mallya's resignation from the Upper House on procedural grounds.
Mallya has been informed that his resignation letter does not conform to prescribed procedures.

In fact, the original letter does not even bear is signature, said reports.

Mallya resigned as Rajya Sabha MP on Monday.

The liquor baron, who was an independent MP in the Upper House of the Indian Parliament, had sent his resignation letter to Hamid Ansari.

The Ethics Committee of the Rajya Sabha on Apr 25 recommended Mallya's expulsion from the Upper House of the Indian Parliament.

Mallya is wanted in India for defaulting on repayment of the bank loans.

The Committee had given Mallya a week time to give his response.

The issue of Mallya's expulsion was discussed during a meeting of the Committee.

The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) earlier finally revoked Vijay Mallya's passport as the liquid baron is wanted in India for defaulting on repayment of the bank loans.

Mallya, who is currently outside India, has been put on the dock for defaulting on repayment of the bank loans extended to the now-defunct  Kingfisher Airlines, of which he was the Chairman.
