Hailstorm, lightning claim six lives in Assam

Guwahati, May 5 (IBNS): At least six people including a woman were killed and 25 others injured in different parts of Assam following hailstorm and lightning, which lashed out the state on Thursday night.

The massive hailstorm and lightning damaged over 200 houses and uprooted a large number of trees in upper, lower and middle Assam's districts.

According to the reports, out of the six victims, two were killed in lightning at Dimow and Tinsukia in upper Assam.

The hailstorm claimed four more lives in Barpeta, Dibrugarh, Bokajan and Sarupathar.

In Sarupathar, a woman was killed while she was trying to save her two children from hailstorm.

On the hand, a 3-year old girl has been seriously injured after she drowned at a drain in Guwahati.

The storm caused extensive damage to properties in many parts of the state.
