Guwahati: Two SIs suspended in Meghalaya woman custodial death case
After submitting the inquiry report of the custodial death incident, Guwahati city police commissioner Mukesh Agarwal said, "We found two SIs guilty in duty and they were suspended."
The suspended SIs were Pritilata Talukdar and Sanjib Kumar Chetry.
An woman of Shillong in Meghalaya was found death who allegedly committed suicide inside a toilet of a police station in Assam's Kamrup (Metro) district on July 5 night.
39-year old Victoria Dayoun Kharkongor hailing from 16(a) Nongrimbah West of Shillong in Meghalaya was found dead inside a toilet attached with Dispur police station in Guwahati.
"A security supervisor of International Hospital in Guwahati had appeared at Dispur police station at around 8:30 pm on Sunday and informed that the woman found in a restless condition. Immediately O/C of Dispur police station debuted an woman SI and other personnel to enquire the matter. On their arrival at the hospital, the attending doctor handed over the woman to police personnel with a report and police staff brought her to police station. At around 10:20 pm the woman went to a toilet attached with the police station but when she did not come out the police personnel broke the door and found her hanging inside the toilet, " the top police official said.
The woman was rushed to Guwahati Medical College hospital but doctor declared her brought dead.
Police had ascertained her identity after recovered a hand bag with PAN card and Electoral Registration Card and other items.
On other hand Krishak Mukti Sangram Samittee leader Akhil Gogoi alleged that police had killed the woman after raped her.
The KMSS leader demanded a high level inquiry into the incident.
On other hand, Kamrup (Metro) district magistrate had ordered a additional district magistrate level inquiry into the incident.
Several organisations of Meghalaya had sought high level inqury into the custodial death incident.
