Guwahati, November 14 (IBNS): Currency notes worth above Rs 30 lakh was found in a drain in Guwahati in torn condition on Monday morning.

Local people had spotted the torn notes of Rs 500 and Rs 1000 denomination in a drain at Ghoramara Chandan Nagar in the city on Monday morning and immediately informed to police.

Later police seized samples from the heap for forensic tests.

According to local reports, the notes could be part of unaccounted money that someone wanted to dispose off after the demonetisation of currency.

Another cache of notes of Rs 500 and Rs 1000, packed in a polyethylene bag, were found at Bahini river near Rukminigaon in the city on Monday.

Meanwhile, people across the state are standing in queues in front of ATMs to collect cash.
