Guwahati city police seize 1 lakh Yaba tablets, arrest four

Guwahati/IBNS: Police on Thursday seized a huge quantity of contraband drugs worth Rs. 5-8 crore in Guwahati and arrested four members of an international drug network.

Based on secret information, a team of Guwahati city police led by Partha Sarathi Mahanta, Joint Commissioner of Police launched an operation in Gorchuk area in the city and intercepted a dumper truck.

“During checking, we have found 1 lakh Yaba tablets from the dumper truck. The market value of the seized drugs is estimated around Rs 5-8 crore,” Partha Sarathi Mahanta said.

He further said that police also arrested four members of an international drug network including three from Manipur and seized the dumper truck.

The arrested were identified as Md. Islam Uddin, Md. Aboi, Md. Sakir Ahmed – all three are hailing from Manipur and Md. Abbad Ali – hailing from Bihar.

The senior police officer further said that the consignment was targeted to deliver to Bangladesh.
