Gurmeet Ram Rahim's parole plea rejected by High Court

Chandigarh: The Punjab and Haryana High Court on Tuesday denied parole to self-styled godman Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh who was convicted in rape and murder cases, media reports said.

The parole plea was filed by Gurmeet's wife Harjeet Kaur who had cited ill health of her husband' mother.

Gurmeet, who is the chief of Dera Sacha Sauda, is serving two 10-year jail term for raping two of his devotees in 2002. He has also been fined Rs.15 lakh in each case.

He was awarded life sentence for murdering Sirsa-based journalist Ram Chander Chhatarpati in 2002.
