Gunners Day celebrated in Kolkata
The day commemorates the raising of the oldest Indian Artillery unit in 1827.
Artillery is a formidable arm of the Indian Army, which has proved its mettle on the battlefield in every single conflict since independence. It is the collective valour and dedication of Artillery units that turned the tide in many a battle including the Kargil conflict in 1999.
The Indian Artillery today has awesome arsenal of guns, mortars, howitzers, rockets, missiles and unmanned aircraft that deliver devastating firepower in the battlefield. Five Artillery officers have risen to the post of Army Chief.
The Regiment has been awarded with 35 battle honours in recognition of its contribution in battles. Gunners, of Eastern Command have been decorated with 04 Shaurya Chakras, 04 Vir Chakras and 55 Sena Medals since independence.
The ‘Gunners’ of HQ Eastern Command in Kolkata celebrated the day with traditional fervour by paying homage to Martyrs, interacting with veterans, reaching out to the Gunner fraternity and re-dedicating themselves to the ethos and spirit enshrined in their motto.
