Gulbarg Society massacre case: 24 convicted

Ahmedabad, June 2 (IBNS) A special SIT court on Thursday gave its verdict in a 2002 post-Godhra riots case of Gulberg Society where 24 accused have been convicted.
Apart from them, 36 people have been acquitted.

Bipin Patel, a BJP corporator and among the key accused, has been acquitted by the court.

The Gulbarg Housing Society massacre had left  69 persons, including ex-Congress MP Ehsan Jafri , killed.

The infamous Gujarat riots of 2002 left hundreds of Muslims dead, injured and tortured and came as a blot in the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) rule in the state.

The riots followed an incident of train burning in Godhra in which Hindus returning from Ayodhya were killed by a Muslim mob.
