GRSE launches its 5th Fast Patrol Vessel for Indian Coast Guard

Kolkata, Aug 10 (IBNS): The Garden Reach Shipbuilders and Engineers (GRSE) launched its fifth Fast Patrol Vessel for the Indian Coast Guard at Raja Bagan Dockyard Unit here on Saturday.

The vessel was launched by Veena Kumar, wife of Dr. Ajay Kumar, IAS, Secretary (Defence Production).

Dr. Ajay Kumar was the chief guest of the launching event.

The tonnage of the vessel, which has been launched, is 305 and speed is 35 knots. It has three powerful engines and same number of water jets.

The vessel's main roles are surveillance operation, anti-poaching, anti-smuggling, rescue operations.  

Interacting with media, Ajay Kumar said the vessel has completely been designed with indigenous elements, giving a push to the central government's 'Make in India' campaign.

Kumar said, "I am very happy that GRSE has made a Fast Patrol Vessel for the Indian coast guard. More I am happy because it has been made and designed with indigenous elements. It is a successful example of 'Make in India' campaign. It has been launched as the 100th warship."

Illustrating about GRSE's accomplishments, he said, "GRSE has achieved new feats in last one year. The capacity of GRSE will be increased so that productivity also increases."
