Green bench wants 'destination' buses to run from May 1 in Delhi

New Delhi, Apr 20 (IBNS): The National Green Tribunal, on Thursday, directed the Delhi government to run point-to-point buses from May 1 to cut down on the air pollution of the National Capital Region, according to media reports.

On March 31, the green bench had reprimanded the government for not implementing the destination based buses after the government had cited shortage of buses as the reason for not being able to implement the directive.

The tribunal said that the government can start the buses on an experimental buses from places that are convenient to a large number of people, media reports said.

The Delhi Transport Corporation has been asked to maintain the buses that will run from one point to another without stopping in between. The bench believes this will encourage many people to avoid taking out their cars and opt for public transport instead.
