New Delhi, Dec 21 (IBNS): Reacting to the verdict of 2G scam case that acquitted all the accused, BJP MP Subramanian Swamy said the government must prove its bonafides by filing an appeal against the appeal  to the High Court.

Swamy tweeted: "Govt must prove its bonafides by filing an immediate appeal in High Court."

Giving a relief to the Congress and its ally DMK, a special CBI court has acquitted Former Telecom Minister A Raja and DMK leader M Karunanidhi's daughter M Kanimozhi and other accused in the 2G scam case of the previous UPA regime.

The accused have been let-off  as the prosecution failed to provide sufficient proofs.

Raja was accused of allocating airwaves and licenses for cellphone networks in exchange of kickbacks leading to an alleged loss of  Rs. 1.76 lakh crore. He was also accused to have been the mastermind in the scam.

The trial had started in 2011. All licenses of Raja were cancelled earlier by the Supreme Court.

One of the lawyers of the accused told NDTV: "I have no hesitation in saying that the prosecution miserably failed to prove the case to the judge."

After the verdict, one of the accused Kanimozhi said: "Justice prevailed. Thanks to everyone who stood by me."

The 2G scam was one of the biggest allegations of corruption against the UPA government which then opposition BJP used as political weapon.

Reacting to the verdict, former Union Finance Minister and Congress leader, P. Chidambaram said: "Allegations of scam against the highest level of government (Congress government) was never true and correct."

Another Congress leader Kapil Sibal said: "Unfortunately the country had to go through this. They have attacked former Prime Minister (Manmohan Singh). (It is clear) nothing has happened."

Senior Congress leader Sashi Tharoor told media: "Justice has worked as it should in our country."
